THE STORY OF CARE FOR OTHERS

Our gift boxes have been designed by both myself and my family who have spent considerable time caring for relatives and visiting our loves ones in care homes. Items have been selected that are both a lovely gift as well as being useful to the recipient.

For example...

Games, colouring, puzzles etc have been selected to help reduce boredom and cognitive decline.

Magnetic book marks were suggested by my grandad who pointed out that the standard type can slip from books easily and it can be difficult to reach down to retrieve them, plus losing the page you were saving.

Note books are particularly helpful to help recall things to do, important names and numbers etc. Also useful as a diary to help recall the day, particularly if memory is fading.

Pillow sprays have been selected over general air fresheners as they can be overpowering and we were looking for something more subtle. When family members were living in care homes, their rooms didn't have a comforting, familiar smell anymore. Using a pillow spray can add a personalised touch to the room and aid sleep.

My grandparents lost strength in their hands and therefore found it difficult to grip items. A hand exerciser was selected as a simple task that can be completed daily to sustain muscle strength.

A foot massager is a great idea to relieve pain or discomfort in the feet without having to reach down to touch your feet, which may not be possible. It is important that sensations in the feet are not lost due to prolonged sitting which can then result in falls.

Handmade soap has been selected for the amazing smell. Those containing sea salt, for instance, helps to control the growth of bacteria and prevent fungal infections.

All items have been given careful consideration. We aim to source new items and create new boxes in the future.
